We Gon Ride

The contagious ‘We Gon Ride’ is a tongue-in-cheek ode to Kiwi petrol head culture and American bling.

synopsis

Fish n Clips director Chris Graham’s music video helped catapult the hip-hop artist into the limelight – ‘We Gon Ride’ went to #1 and spent five months in the singles charts. The clip entered the music television charts at #1 and became one of the most requested videos on music TV.

what

This good humoured send-up fits well with former tagger Dei Hamo’s comical hometown rhyming style.
In the opening shots, Graham captures mesmerising reflections of water and glass found in the Auckland’s Britomart atrium. Rhythmic car door-slamming antics sets the viewer up for the following classic street performance scenes, laced with tongue-in-cheek references to American hip-hop culture and cameos by several infamous Kiwi celebrities.

how

In post, care was taken to create the ‘polished’ look and feel. Detail work such as rig clean up, shot stabilisation and an array of subtle effects were completed in Flame. Effects and online were handled by digital artist Paul Dixon and the final finesse and grading in Telecine by senior colourist Dave Gibson produced the immaculate finish.
