Hotlink

Malaysia's leading mobile provider Maxis adopts a new look for their prepaid Hotlink brand, with the promise “There’s always more with Hotlink”

what

The creative challenge was to find a way to weave a wide range of products and colour palettes into a distinct television campaign.

Digipost lead flame artist Richard Betts and thinktank director Sling worked closely with the Malaysian creative team to develop a simple yet striking graphic treatment.

The result was a graffiti-style look which was applied to live footage, with dynamic transitions inserted between scenes.

Each new scene is revealed in reverse cascading fashion, as the camera is pulled back in post - a visual device designed to reinforce the depth of services offered by the Hotlink brand.

how

Betts travelled to Kuala Lumpur to supervise the studio shoot with Sling.

A series of short live action scenes were set against green screen, with the RED camera locked off for the most part.  The pedal car scene was shot using a turntable.

The RED footage was compiled in Digipost’s Baselight Transfer suite, with lead colourist Dave Gibson completing a basic grade, balancing out colours to allow a good technical key.

Betts took care of the rest in Flame, crafting the colourful stencil-like layers, adding camera moves and creating the flow that links the scenes together.
