Young New Zealand writer director Dylan Pharazyn is celebrating the selection of his debut short, VOSTOK STATION at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
Set in the arctic wilderness, the eight-minute film follows the single survivor of a catastrophic disaster experiencing a mystifying moment of transitory beauty.
Written and directed by Pharazyn, VOSTOK STATION was co-produced by The Sweet Shop and Richard Collins. Post production was completed at Digipost.
Says Pharazyn: "The plan was to try and break the mould a bit with the traditional short film format. I liked the idea of making an art film that utilised a heavy post component. A combination not that common in short films.”
“Working with Digipost was amazing. They could see that we were trying to make something really unique and totally got behind it. Stuart Bedford led the visual effects and was excellent, absolutely tireless”, continues Pharazyn.
“The team worked day and night for months and I was stunned at just how much support they gave us just to get behind something they believed would be a good piece of work."
The New Zealand Screen Innovation Production Fund-backed film has also been selected for a slew of other festivals, including the UK’s onedotzero, Interfilm in Germany, Sweden’s Uppsala and Spain’s Valladolid film festivals.
