Auckland based Digipost continue their 20 years of leadership in New Zealand film and television post production with the implementation of the fastest, most powerful and cost-effective RED camera post production solution available.
Digipost’s new Baselight Transfer (BLT) system provides producers, directors and cinematographers access to a cutting edge digital telecine tool that allows rapid viewing, grading, and transferring of REDCODE™ RAW (.R3D) camera content, to editable dailies or online conforms.
The BLT supersedes previous offerings, providing unmatched flexibility, seamless workflow and multi-format output capabilities. The system accepts files direct from flash or hard drive and delivers full control of RED camera settings in post. It also supports other data formats including Phantom and P2.
RED is gaining considerable favour worldwide, with well over 100 feature films shot on the platform and the technology quickly gaining momentum in the commercials industry.
A number of RED projects have been finished at Digipost, including recent commercials for The Warehouse and Purex, and there are a growing number of music videos coming through for artists such as international jazz aficionado Nathan Haines, Polynesian hip hop sensations Nesian Mystik and Film Construction director Perry Bradley’s band - US college radio darlings - Selon Recliner.
The BLT system sits alongside Digipost’s existing Baselight, offering complementary facilities. BLT incorporates Baselight’s powerful conform and primary grading toolsets, 16 ultra-fast CPU cores, GPU acceleration, three Compact Flash card readers and Truelight colour management.
Digipost’s BLT is the first installation of its kind in this part of
the world, reinforcing the company‘s position as the leading provider
of high quality post services to the advertising, film and television
production industries. For the more technically minded, here are some of the key features:
- Real time 2K (‘half res’) decode and review from CF cards, Firewire drives, or file system based disk packs
- Plays R3D natively on the timeline, in real-time, with simultaneous GPU grading
- Plays 2K DPX in real-time with Truelight profile
- Ability to edit all RED decode parameters (including RSX files) on a per-shot
basis, allowing ‘group grading’ of multiple shots simultaneously - Creates DNxHD MXF I Quicktime, 1:1 MXF I TIFF content direct from R3D – no intermediate processes required
- Supports CMX I AAF and XML using Baselight’s statistical file based conform engine
